Photo of the Day........6F / -14C Cold Ozarks Morning

This is an iPhone photo taken today through the windshield of my car crossing the dam looking southeastward towards the power plant on a very very cold morning.  This the first time I have attempted to post an iPhone photo using Photoshop Express iPhone app to process it.  iPhone capitalizes all the letters in the name Ozark.  I wonder why.   Yea I know.  I should clean my windshield.

Last October flew a Beech A90 King Air to KMKC for an FAA Part 135 inspection.  Took a few photos of it sitting in the hanger.

Photo of the Day........An Unexpected Christmas Tree Ornament

I hope all you Americans had a joyful peaceful Thanksgiving.  I spent much of my Thanksgiving evening trying to capture this Carolina Wren that somehow got into the house and penetrated into the deepest room within the house.   We had some bird netting to protect the garden from these little feathered friends so we cut some off and eventually captured him or her and let him go.  Cute little thing isn't he.

Bonus Photo of the Day........Merganser Landing

While walking over the Capilano River Suspension Bridge someone spotted some Eagles.  They were too far away to image with the lens I was using but we stood  on the bridge and watched Eagles fishing long the edge of the river and maybe one Osprey flying around with the Eagles.  I think it was an immature Eagle. Then three Mergansers flew down the the canyon and landed in the still water.

Photo of the Day........Beluga Whale

I know the real purpose for me to be here is jhh5 <--- babysitting, but I still hoped for some photo ops., or should I say photo oops.  So I shouldn't complain but I am going to anyway.  Shooting conditions have been crappy!  I was shooting yesterday in the rain forest in the mid day hours at ISO 1000 to hold f/8.0.  Previously I was trying to shoot on top of snow covered Grouse Mountain with snow falling and thick clouds.  Before that I was trying to shoot at the Vancouver Aquarium in rain and fog and really no sun.  I brought my tripod but when sneaking shots while chasing a grand kid a tripod is not an option.  In all it  was an awesome opportunity to stretch and learn.  What did I learn?  If anything I learned Beluga Whales are VERY VERY white.

Photo of the Day........Grouse Mountain Tram coming up the mountain

Photo from yesterday on the platform waiting for the tram to arrive to take us up the mountain we watched the earlier tram head up the mountain and disappear into the snow and fog.

Photo of the Day........Snowman

Well Izzy this is the biggest snowman Abby would build. She was more interested in building a snow wall with her friend Jason.   Snapshot was taken at the top of Grouse Mountain Vancouver BC Canada.

I have been using Picasa on this trip and the more I use it the less I like it.  Considering it's free it is still awesome.  I am a PS5 spoiled brat.

Photo of the Day...........Landing YVR

Since I am traveling with a notebook computer I am
experimenting with Picasa 3. So far I like it for it's
organizing skills and it seems good for quick adjustment.
But, I have no idea how this will post since I am using a link.

Photo of the Day......................................Vancouver British Columbia

I took this photo from Spanish Shoals, but forgotten when I took it, and too lazy tonight to look it up.   Looking at this shot I was reminded of early color postcards and decided to give it that brushed water color look.

Why Vancouver because I am off for lovely Vancouver BC early tomorrow morning.  I hope for lots and lots of photos.  I am dreaming tidal pool shots and whatever I have time to stick my nose into.

Photo of the Day........View from Lookoff Point

More of the old digital camera shots of Nova Scotia along the Bay of Fundy taken with an Olympus C40Z 2-megapixal camera. This shot was taken on January 3rd. 2005 at about 3:00PM Atlantic Standard Time. This photo was taken from Lookoff Point looking southward towards Minas Basin.  Heh 'B', Correct me if I have any of this wrong.

Photo of the Day.........................Suddenly it looks like Fall

Last night, for the first time, It looked like Fall here.  The light was fall like for the first time.   The sky had that very "northern" look to it.  The trees created a reddish hue and with the crisp air the Fall Season seemed to have arrived.
I took a few snapshots with the D10.  Here is one fresh off the camera.  Untouched by human hands.

Photo of the Day........Scots Bay Nova Scotia Canada

I'm waiting for a client to make a decision on some aircraft sale photos.  I might have a few of those to share, but till then, I dug into the archives and pulled out some old digital camera shots of Nova Scotia along the Bay of Fundy taken with an Olympus C40Z 2-megapixal camera.  This shot was taken on January 3rd. 2005 at 3:20PM Atlantic Standard Time.  This photo was taken on the shore of Scots Bay looking southwest towards the setting sun outward to the opening of the Bay of Funday.  Approximate location is N45degs-40mins latitude by W65degs.-00mins, Longitude.

Below is a link to a travel log that explains the high tides of the Bay of Fundy.  They claim they are the highest tides in the world.

Photo of the Day........Primary Flight Instruments

I've been working on a paying job photographing an airplane.  I have one quick snap taken during the photo session to share.  Selling an airplane is never a happy decision for the seller.  This one is a bit sad for me too.  Not so much because I have flown it but because of the hours spent working on it.   Watching someone selling an airplane is like watching Travis shooting Ole Yeller.  Almost enough to make you cry.

Photo of the Day........No more Spiders!

I am sick of looking at that ugly spider.  If there are any spider lovers out there I promise a spider photo Halloween night.  But, for now I have to stop because I am starting to see that ugly nasty girl everywhere I look.  So for today I offer an anti-spider.  A flower.  An offering of peace to all those I have grossed out the past few days.

Photo of the Day........More Black Widow Spider

Four Days to Halloween.  Have you got treats ready for the little ghoulies?  I am thinking of little black candies and creepy crawlies.  MUHAHAHAHA!!!

For those few followers I have left I promise no more spiders after Halloween.  Cross my heart and hope to die!  MUHAHAHAHA!

Yea, I know.  Lame, so on to the spider.  Look at all those creepy eyes!!

Photo of the Day....WARNING! Not for the Faint of Heart. Spider!

WARNING!  This photo is not for the faint of heart.  Moms lead your children out of the room.  If you have Archnophopia please immediately close this link.  DO NOT look down.  Is that enough warning?  Ok, for you intrepid fear seekers, you Adrenalin junkies, go ahead and look down.  What?  Not creepy enough you say?!  Check back tomorrow!

I must admit that I am not very pleased with the outcome of the photos.  I was putting the camera down very close and not knowing what the habits of the Female Black Widow Spider I was a bit nervous.  Would she jump at me like a Wolf Spider?  How close can I get?  How close to I want to get?  I admit my thoughts were racing a bit.  After reading the symptoms of Black Widow Spider Bites I  was glad I was cautious.  Maybe next time.  But, do I want there to be a next time?!

Photo of the Day........Culley's Bar

Culley's bar has been a drinking establishment for nearly a quarter of a century.   Before that it was a cafe dating back to 1901.  Before that it was a funeral home apparently dating back to 1878 when it was built. It is listed on the Springfield historic building registry and one has to wonder what will become of it?

Photo of the Day........House on Pickwick Street

This is a photo of a house in an old and beautiful part of town.  I took this photo from my car using the Canon D10.   I cropped it to make the windows the central subject and remove any distractive subject matter.

Photo of the Day........O-Dark Thirty Morning Departure

Photo taken at 6:35 AM on Oct. 20, 2010.  While driving toward the hanger a United Express was taking off in the early predawn darkness.  I lifted the camera and took a fast photo.  Sometimes unplanned photos have interesting results.   The jet is moving to the left and I am moving to the left.  The streaks are not moving but they create motion.

Bonus Photo of the Day.........Getting closer to the Spidey Hammock.

A closer view of the hammock and the spider who spun it all covered in dew drops.  This is a photo that's value is the subject and not the composition.  It is a snapshot.  I grant that it would have far mor impact if taken with a macro lens with the perfect settings but some photos are to interesting to pass up because of the uniquness of the object.  "You don't see a spider web like this every day."

Canon D10 Automatic

Photo of the Day........Spidey Hammock

Took a snapshot of a dew covered spider web woven like a chandelier hammock.  It looks very comfy. I have a few closer views I will share soon.
This snap is needed to get a perspective on the web itself.

Photo of the Day.............James River Expressway

Yesterday's Rose is a "Knock Out" Rose.  Not a "Knock Off" Rose.   Yesterday while playing with the wide angle tele.  I took a hyper focal photo into the sun looking westward down the James River Expressway.  The photo is in focus from the grass stems to the horizon.

Photo of the Day........Knock off Rose in Morning Light

Lens testing.  Took some photos of a Knockoff Rose bloom in morning light.  DADT [Don't ask Don't Tell]  It's a $1500.00US Canon EF 28-70 f/2.8 L USM Wide Angle Telephoto lens.  WOW!!  I love it!!!!  From Macro, approximately 35-degree field, to wide angle, approximately 85-degree field, is crisp, sharp, nearly flawless reproduction.  Can't wait to try it on meatier subjects.  Got any suggestions?

Bonus Photo of the Day........Morning Dew

It's dropping to around 37F or 3C tonight so I thought reliving some summer warmth would be nice.  Photo of morning dew drops on grass from June 17th. of this year.  Photo was taken at 6:35AM using the macro lens and tripod.  To get close I lowered the tripod down as low as it could go and laid down in the wet grass but it was a warm morning.  Click it to enlarge.

Bonus Photo of the Day........More Mundane Fog

Observant natives might be able to guess where I was just before taking these three photos.  If any of you natives want to guess leave a comment here or on twitter or facebook.  Family and relatives are not eligible for prizes if I am giving any away.  No hints!  As extra motivation I will announce the winner on the blog for everyone to see.  So start guessing.  Look for hints below:

Photo of the Day........Foggy Morning

To those who actually do look into this site I thank you and I apologize to you.  I know well enough that a successful blog keeps it's viewers interested by keeping itself lively and entertaining, and I have not been doing that lately.  I have photos backed up and I promise I will have new photos coming soon.  Interesting ones .....I HOPE!  But, for the meantime I will again promise to keep the sight updated with a new photo every day, or a link to other interesting photos every day.  I think you will understand, it happens to all, when life.....WORK!  gets in the way of what you really want to do.

Since I carry my D10 around with me all the time and, fortunately, there is usually nothing exciting to photograph.  I take photos of mundane things.  Yesterday it was a foggy morning so I took foggy mundane photos.

I used Microsoft to adjust this photo a bit and Microsoft photo software is really really bad.  if it looks crooked: it is.

Photo of the Day......BNSF Locomotive Crossing Chestnut Expressway

My schedule has been crazy the past week and I have been realizing the key to a good blog is keeping in fresh and lively and you can't do that when your not at the keyboard or too tired at night to get to the computer.

I got caught by a freight train so decided to grab the Canon D10 point and shoot.  Even though it has many adjustments I almost always shot in automatic.  The Canon Powershot D10 camera is a bit bulky as point and shoots go but it is hardy and waterproof down to 30 feet and the way I treat my point an shoot cameras I need one built like a Abrams Tank.

Photo of the Day......An Old Friend's Photo

I have been so distracted lately I haven't posted in days.  I think I got a good night's sleep last night assuming being so tired I fell asleep on the couch and never made it to bed.  "Things" like to keep one from doing what they really want to do.

This photo was taken by my dear old friend and college room mate Doug.  I don't know where it was taken or when but it is a great shot!  Maybe Doug will comment and let us know the when and wheres.

Photo Journalism from the Boston Globe

I was doing a search on a railroad located in Orange, Texas when I came across these Hurricane Ike photos from the Boston Globe.  It reaffirms the impact of excellent photojournalism on the hearts and minds of people.  These photos will get your attention and hold it fast.

Photo of the Day......Male Cardinal

Male Cardinal from last winter.  Seems like winter is here already.   Crazy how we may have to go from air conditioning to heat in one day with no time off.  88 to 48 in 24 or so hours.  GRRRR!

Bonus Photo of the Day......More Sandhill Cranes

Another photo of the same Sandhill Cranes.  You can see the setting sun like studio "catch lights" reflected in their orange eyes.  There is a good deal of subtle browns in their feathers which you can see better if you click on the image to expand it.

Photo of the Day......Sandhill Cranes

Two Sandhill Cranes taken on February 17, 2008 at 6:22PM PST.  The sun was starting to get low over the Pacific ocean.  You can see shadows being cast across the back of the nearest Crane.  Photo was taken at the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary located on the delta of the Fraser River in Delta British Columbia, Canada.

Photo of the Day.....Patron Ad recreation

I've decided to give up on plan A for now and work on plan B so I would have a photo by the end of the month to meet the deadline.  I feel fairly close on this one.   I need to buy some translucent plastic for the bottom of the photo to get the lighting even and the tone equal from top to bottom.  I need a smaller glass than we have since I don't intend to use the shot glass with gin in it.  I should get plastic ice to match the magazine ad but not going to.  I'll use real ice.  And, on the overall it needs some more illumination.  Finally I'll try the pencil trick to see if i can get the bottle sides to edge out more by drawing a line along each side to create more contrast.  As I approach the right lighting I'll add the green ribbon and the slice of lime in the glass.

Photo of the Day...... Xylocopa virginica

Eastern Carpenter Bee.  They are big!  Only the female stings I've read.  Why does that seem right to me?  Like a Brit once said,  "Why does everything in the States bite, especially the women?"   I decided this ugly "sucka" needed soft focus.   Bumble Bees are beautiful.  Carpenter bees are BUFs like B52s.   Big and slow.

Photo of the Day......Boeing B-17G Liberty Belle

Until I come up with something new I want finish up the Boeing B-17G Liberty Belle photos from Springfield-Branson National Airport.
